Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Player Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and were in contact with the NFL.
The organization did not mention the player specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice by name, posted a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the team selected in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Unavailable
No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice was absent for the first six games of this season following an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people hurt. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
On the field, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
