Unveiling an Unique Steam Demo: Playing as a Piece of Feces in a Mission to Arrive at the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have discovered a variety of entertaining creations from small studios. However, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired platformer lets you play a character that is truly a turd striving to make its way to a toilet. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."
The gameplay is simple: press a single jump button. Across numerous stages, encounter tough enemies and unlock a shop to acquire skins for your poop character.
Plan your jumps carefully, since one error requires restarting the level. Jump off air pockets to hurl your character upward, traverse disappearing ledges, and activate switches to unlock hidden paths. Earn coins to purchase more difficult stages as things intensifies.
In terms of design, the experience shows off eye-catching stages and a killer soundtrack. The retro art featuring shifting geometric shapes could recall players of old favorites like Earthbound.
While it's tough to recall other games where you play as a dung character, gaming have long featured scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players create throwables from character excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as plant food. And of course, this theme is present a lot in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Despite its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already earned impressive awards, like being named best at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. The demo is ready currently on Steam, with the full game set to arrive on computers in the fall.
